North Carolina highways can be busy, dangerous places. While one might think it is safer to travel in the wee hours of the morning, when there are not a lot of vehicles on the road, this is not always the case. In fact, on a recent Thursday at approximately 5 a.m., a collision occurred that resulted in a tragic loss.
Preliminary investigations show that two vehicles were involved in a crash. One of the drivers, who was operating a blue van, had pulled off to the side of the road from a right-hand lane. A tractor-trailer was traveling on the same highway when it crashed into the parked van.
The driver of the van initially survived his injuries
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the driver of the van struggling to survive from the injuries he suffered upon impact when the massive truck hit his van. Sadly, the 23-year-old man was later pronounced dead while still at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, age 63, did not suffer any injuries.
In the aftermath of a fatal collision
Investigators have not yet finished their work in determining exactly what caused the big rig to hit the parked van. No information was provided as to why the driver of the van had pulled off the road. When a person is fatally injured in a North Carolina motor vehicle accident, an immediate family member of the victim may seek restitution in court if there is evidence to show that another driver’s negligence was a causal factor to the collision that resulted in death.
